Michael Papas’s UK/Cyprus co-production "TOMORROW’S WARRIOR" is a highly ambitious film. Inspired by true events which took place during and after the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, it tells the story of a young Cypriot boy and his family who flee their village then struggle to survive in a refugee camp, before the boy resolves to return to his village which is now occupied by the Turkish Army.
“TOMORROW’S WARRIOR” was distributed in the UK by David and Barbara Stone of the legendary Gate Cinemas, was acclaimed by critics and went on to be shown all over the world in more than 25 countries. UIP distributed the film in Greece.

“Michael Papas`s spectacular view of war. This is a tour-de-force... Stunning... Mind-bending... It has few equals anywhere in the cinema.”
THE SUNDAY TIMES
“...There is a controlled, sharp-edged poetry at work which is the product of unusual mastery of the medium ... a political work, but its greatest sequences display an artistry that transcends local propaganda, lucidly extends to portray man‘s reasonless inhumanity to man everywhere. Shot through with extraordinary imagery... " THE NEW STATESMAN
“Michael Papas`s splendid new film... rich in detail and beautifully performed... full of fervour and compassion.” SUNDAY EXPRESS
“...Images of pure beauty, bitter-sweet experiences... this is a film from the heart as well as the head, in which Michael Papas gives us the raw, rich material and from then on it is up to us to discover “for whom the bell tolls’...” MORNING STAR
“Michael Papas tells his story well. Although no one can fail to recognise his passionate commitment, he has made a film that is moving because it deals with the universal themes of family love, pride in one’s homeland and the fear and anguish endured by ordinary people wherever they become the victims of aggression. He proves himself to have both the sensitivity to create an atmosphere of contentment and wellbeing and the disciplined skill to handle the action of the invasion at a pace which makes murderous chaos out of ordered cinematography and special effects. And judging by the performances of his excellent cast, he is an actor’s director with the ability to convey his every need...” SCREEN INTERNATIONAL
“…refreshingly rejects any pretence of conventional ‘realism’ or ‘objectivity’ in favour of a glorious, heady blend of mythical vision, ethnic painting and theatre, boldly stylized spectacle. The film’s use of phantasy and archetypal dreams sets it aside from many a political war movie... a surprisingly handsome, operatic production, with Michael Papas utilising the wide screen, colour and vivid sound effects - the family rushes across the screen as silhouettes against epic images of a cruelly war-torn landscape: the visions are sumptuous...” FILMS & FILMING
“Marked with intensity of feeling, Michael Papas`s impressive new movie... communicates its message forcefully.” DAILY MAIL
“Marked with intensity of feeling, Michael Papas`s impressive new movie... communicates its message forcefully.” DAILY MAIL
“Michael Papas has a compelling way with the camera... he can fill the screen with original and often powerful compositions, and the folk music wells up on the soundtrack in a way that is never, never simply manipulative. The characters are all credibly drawn, many of them by nonprofessionals, and there rarely seems a moment when anyone seems to be ‘performing’. It is a style that recalls the ‘verite’ of the French New Wave and the ‘verissimo’ of the Italian cinema, but with a professionalism that suggests (wrongly) a much bigger budget.” WHERE TO GO
"A fascinating study of a family's courage and resilience under extremely harsh circumstances." NEW YORK TIMES
Michael Papas’s angry movie brilliantly recreates the horrors of the Turkish invasion.” THE OBSERVER
“Stylised action and super-real sound effects, with camera-work and editing that are stunning.
More breathtaking than ‘Apocalypse Now’...
More earsplitting than ‘Altered States’...
More stylised than Fassbinder...”
Faster than ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark!’ EVENT
